What is an Interior Designer?
An Interior Designer is a professional trained to be a problem solver of “the built environment”. That encompasses making your space pleasing to look at, yet functioning for your lifestyle, needs, budget and more importantly combining many diffenent individuals into one collective whole. A key feature of coming to a creative solution is to assess any allergic, visual, auditory or mobility needs of the occupants. Putting all the “pieces of the puzzle” together is a key ingredient to a long lasting solution.
What is the difference between an Interior Designer and a Decorator?
An Interior Designer is a professionally trained individual who has completed formal studies, then worked as an apprentice under another’s supervision. Then the Interior Designer takes a 2 day Qualification Exam testing their overall knowledge covering building codes, accessible design, space allocation, harmful and allergic materials, as well as the decorative and “finishing’ touches needed. Then they are awarded the Professional title of Interior Designer. The designer is versed in all aspects of the built environment and therefore able to answer and solve a larger variety of problems.
A decorator is a person that has a not passed the qualification exam and has a “flair” for creating beautiful settings and putting the elements of a room together to create a pleasing effect.
